This week, I focused a lot on my original work. I continued to add to the pamphlet to help the parents deal with stress and did some more research to add information. I also began my research on the leading stress factors of Neonatal Nurse Practitioners (NNPs). I read some interesting blogs that intrigued me and surprised me. I thought that the more experience one gets, then the more confident and less stressful it is for them on a daily basis. However, reading some blogs illuminated that some NNPs that have been working for over 10 years only feel slightly less stressed out during hard times. The days that stressed them out the most was when a patient who seemed healthy was born with a severe condition due to getting born early. This is a very rewarding job, but it also comes with a roller coaster of emotions. Taking care of a patient that cannot talk to you is extremely difficult, which increases stress levels. The essence of something unexpected happening is a major contributor to stress because the NNPs are not prepared. This was really interesting to me, so I can’t wait to pick up more knowledge next week and read some more blogs and articles.
