Prior to ISM, I had some insight on the medical field. I knew the basics about Neonatal Nurse Practitioning (NPP), but doing some more research has allowed me to expand my knowledge of the field. I was able to learn more in depth about what a NNP does on a daily basis. I got to learn about some of the procedures and daily tasks, such as being able to administer medicine and treatments for infants, monitoring specialized equipment, including incubators and ventilators, and many more tasks. This strengthened my interest in becoming a NNP. Now, I am even more intrigued by what I have learned. Continuing to learn more about the tasks and procedures that an NNP has to do on a daily basis will also make me feel more comfortable with having so much responsibility. This is a job that one gets better as time goes on and with more experience. At first it seemed scary to be in charge of a premature baby’s life, but now that I have more knowledge of the tasks, I am more confident that I will be able to be successful throughout my career. This week was very successful for me in terms of research. I spent the majority of my time learning about the day to day responsibilities of an NNP, making me feel more confident that this is what I want to pursue. During this upcoming week, I will continue to research some of the questions I have such as: how to deal with a loss, how to deal with the stressed out parents, ways that will help me get through college while taking this challenging career path, how flexible a NNPs schedule can be, and other day to day related questions. This career is one that will allow me to grow and constantly learn new things and face new experiences. I am excited to further my research on Neonatal Nurse Practitioning!
