The main focus I had this week was to find a variety of different stress factors and try to find an article that was more diverse. The article that I read this week gave me such a new perspective because I am unfamiliar with certain aspects that parents face. For instance, the appearance of the baby, the duration of stay, and the idea that the parents are not in control evoke the highest amount of stress for the parents. Knowing this allowed me to gear some questions in interviews I’ve had towards this. I was able to get a better understanding because I asked some of the neonatal nurse practitioners (NNP) what their insight is and how it affects how they do their job on a daily basis. I was able to get great information, and I found it interesting that a lot of them do similar things such as ensuring that the parent can be as involved as possible. This research and information will help me with my original work because I feel a lot more knowledgeable of what I am gearing my pamphlet on. Next week, I will begin to focus on the NNPs stress factors and how they don’t let the stress overwhelm them.
