This week I wrote my original work proposal. I am excited to continue to learn about the job of an NNP. I have found it very interesting to read about different stress factors and their different impacts on NNPs and parents. This has inspired me for my original work idea. Furthermore, this week I found a website called Every Tiny Thing. The mission for this website is to make the NICU experience easier, brighter and more joyful for families. They do this by "creating an exclusive line of high-quality gift products designed specifically for the NICU, by NICU nurses and families”. I read a post which gave me a different perspective on things. For instance, I read that buying clothes for the baby upsets the parents because they think about how their child is a long way from fitting into them. Instead, one should give handmade artwork, milestone cards for the baby, a doctor/nurse handbook (almost like it was a wedding guest book, but for the baby’s staff), a journal, etc. These were such amazing gift ideas that I never thought of. Not only does this help me with my original work, but it inspires me to want to read more. I also learned about NICU post-traumatic stress disorder and read a post about a mom, Ashley Hinton, who experienced and overcame this. I’m so glad that I was able to read different stories, because they have had a huge impact on me and have inspired me even more. I can’t wait to read more and continue my research!!
