This week, I read a blog post about project Hope, which has the goal of improving obstetric and neonatal care in the Dominican Republic. I read that “reduction in newborn pulmonary hypertension from 80% to 37%, as well as a decrease in premature infant death due to hypothermia” which blows my mind. Reading blogs and posts about how Neonatal Nurse Practitioners have been able to help newborn babies, especially in areas where it is rare to get good medical care, makes me want to learn more. I can spend hours reading these blogs and reading different stories about how NNPs have touched the lives of others. Not only were babies being saved, but the parents and family members of those babies were so thankful for what the NNPs were able to achieve. The post I read was about a little boy named Joshua. “He’s a fighter. Any other patient would’ve passed away by now. I have faith” is what one of his doctors said about him. Equipment was scarce at the hospital that he was at, so project HOPE was trying to aid these types of areas. I want to do this one day and I would love to go to new places and help out at places that aren’t as fortunate as the US. Reading blogs and stories like this inspire me even more to want to pursue this career.
