This week my main priority was to write my research speech and make my presentation! I also focused on briefly researching the stress factors that affect NNPs the most. This had way less factors that affect them compared to the parents who had an infant in the NICU. I learned that newly graduated NNPs struggle the most due to their lack of inexperience, which makes sense, but this tends to lead to feeling overwhelmed, thus more stressed. The unexpectedness from their new job tends to overburden them with such inexperience. As one gets more hands on experience and dedicates time and commits when they’re in the NICU, they will succeed more. In this case, practice doesn't make perfect, but it makes confidence and efficiency. I think when you’re a new NNP, you need to know your limits and not stress yourself out with all this new work because you are just learning and it’s okay to take a step back so that you are able to perform at your best every day. This is a job where you can’t slack off. You need to be knowledgeable especially because you are informing parents and leading other doctors and nurses on a daily basis.
